The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem NC is a wonderful place to see modern and contemporary art by local, national, and international artists. When I last visited, I was able to see the 20-year Art-o-mat exhibit. The idea for the exhibit originated from local artist Clark Whittington. The SECCA, or Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, is a wonderful place to take in some local and national artwork. It hosts free weekly Art in the Overlook Gallery gatherings and is a venue for films and videos. It also has several shops where you can purchase art and gifts. While you're there, you might want to check out the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA).

If you're a fan of theater, The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art is definitely worth a visit. The SECCA is located downtown, which makes it a great place to meet fellow art lovers. The West End Historic District is another highlight of the city. This 230-acre site is home to 500 historic structures, including the H.D. Poindexter House, Zevely House, and other historic buildings. A tour of the visitor's center costs approximately four dollars for adults and one dollar for children. The Peppercorn Theater features local theater talent and has been performing family-friendly shows since 2010.

The Reynolda House is the home of tobacco tycoon R.J. Reynolds. It opened as a museum in 1967 on his 1,067-acre estate.
