Major Intel Design Flaw Leaves Computers Vulnerable

Microsoft, Apple, and every cloud provider are scrambling at the moment to address 2 major vulnerabilities discovered earlier this week. This “design flaw” in Intel’s hardware is a big deal because it impacts computers, servers and cloud solutions going back years.

This hardware bug allows malicious programs to steal data that is being processed in your computer’s memory. Normally, applications are not able to do that because they are isolated from each other and the operating system. this hardware bug breaks that isolation.

So since cyber criminals are now aware of this flaw we do not doubt it will be a matter of time before we see exploits in the wild. Much like what happened with Wannacry: Companies were warned to patch system to protect against cyber-attack - but didn't

Malicious software can now run on your computer and access passwords, emails, browser data, financial data and other information without your knowledge that would normally be secure because it is running in a separate application.

Both Microsoft and Apple are working on security patches. Please have your IT department test and deploy these patches as soon as possible.

Apple is patching High Sierra, Sierra and El Capitan. If you are running an older Operating system on any computer now is the time to look into upgrading.

Microsoft is patching Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Server 2016, Server 2012, Server 2008 R2. If you are running an older Operating system on any computer now is the time to look into upgrading.
